Tom Garlinghouse is a highly proficient archaeologist and faunal analyst with over ten years of
experience working in California. He is competent in field archaeology, having participated in several excavation, survey, and site recording projects throughout Southern, Central, and Northern California. In
the laboratory Dr. Garlinghouse specializes in faunal analysis, having worked with many vertebrate
and invertebrate assemblages from sites throughout California.
Prior to his tenure at Albion, Tom Garlinghouse received his Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, Davis in 2000.
His dissertation, Human Responses to Insularity: The Intensification of a Marine-Oriented Economy on
San Clemente Island, California, incorporated archaeological data from three island sites.
Tom's recent projects include:
- Project manager for a cultural resources site recording/record updating effort for prehistoric and historic archaeological sites along the Pit River and Lake Britton in Shasta County, California.
- Co-directed a pedestrian survey of a 1,000-acre parcel at the Fort Hunter Liggett Military Installation in Monterey County, California. He is also the lead author for the report.
- Field director for a site recording effort at Fort Hunter Liggett in Monterey County, California, which included an intensive inventory and preliminary evaluation of 17 previously undocumented archaeological sites.
- Field director for an archaeologucal testing effort at Camp Roberts. He is also the primary author of the report.
