John Ellison joined the Albion team in 2006 and received a BA in Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is an experienced field director, leading crews of up to 25 archaeologists on projects throughout California. His responsibilities include executing research guidelines and strategies, documenting project efforts, organizing and managing equipment, recognizing and appropriately addressing health and safety issues for the entire team, and directing archaeological crews. He is also responsible for independent analysis, research, and report writing. John is experienced in both precolonial and colonial archaeology allowing him a broad view of adaptation, displacement, and migration. He is an expert in flaked stone analysis, and is currently researching the continual use of flaked stone into the colonial eras and the persistence of indigenous identity.
