Albion designed and implemented a Wildlife Hazard Assessment for Moffett Federal Airfield in Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California. This was a 12-month wildlife study designed to comply with the recommendations in Federal Aviation Regulation Part139 for a wildlife (primarily bird) hazard assessment on airfields with wildlife strike hazards. We recorded over 137,000 individual birds from 8 point counts locations on the airfield during this 12 month study. Our final Wildlife Hazard Assessment report summarized the results of the wildlife study. We analyzed spatial and temporal (including altitude) displays of all wildlife observations on the airfield and identified seasonal strike hazards. We identified wildlife attractants on and off the airfield and made recommendations to reduce the strike hazards of wildlife on the airfield. We also revised the Moffett airfield burrowing owl management plan.
