Land Use History of Wake Island
Project Manager: Clinton Blount
Date: 1997 - 2000

Albion and Cultural Resource Management Services have initiated an oral history program for Wake Island, a small atoll situated 1,500 miles west of Hawaii, that focuses on postwar years. This project follows on the heels of team's highly successful oral history of the U.S. and Japanese forces involved in the battle of Wake Island (December 1941) and the subsequent Japanese occupation of the small atoll. The present program will focus on events and practices that may have altered the landscape. Albion and Cultural Resource Management Services will also be investigating the role of Wake Island in the U.S. evacuation of Vietnamese citizens in 1974.
