Darlene received her B.S. in Ecology and Systematic Biology at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 1999. She has been working at Fort Hunter Liggett since 2002, where she is lead on the federally listed threatened plant, purple amole. In 2003, Darlene initiated a MAPS (Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship) banding station at Fort Hunter Liggett for which she holds the master banding permit. Darlene honed her skills with birds by volunteering for many years with Pacific Wildlife Care rehabbing injured wild birds, banding passerines at other MAPS stations, and by banding federally listed threatened western snowy plovers on San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County beaches. Darlene enjoys all the time she spends outside working, as well as the time she has with her family.
