Archaeologist with Bachelor's Degree and CRM experience
Position Title: Archaeologist
Position Status: Full-time, Permanent, Regular/Benefited, Non-Exempt
Compensation: commensurate with experience, plus benefits
Location: Santa Cruz
Summary of position: The ideal candidate for this position will have a B.A. or M.A. with at least three years of technical archaeological experience. They will have a background in California archaeology, experience working on a broad range of projects in both field and lab contexts, clear writing skills, and be capable of contributing to specialized analyses. They will also have the ability to professionally represent Albion to clients, subcontractors, and the public. Must be willing to live in Santa Cruz, Monterey, or surrounding areas.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Anthropology or Archaeology
Three years of technical experience, including construction monitoring, field projects, and lab work
General experience with artifact analysis or other technical specialty (e.g., GIS)
Awareness of CRM laws (CEQA, Section 106, NAGPRA)
Clear and succinct writing skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Enthusiasm for learning new skills
Attention to detail
Living in or willing to relocate to Santa Cruz, Monterey, or nearby areas
Preferred Qualifications:
Background working in California and studying California precolonial through American Period history
Experience working and communicating with clients and construction crews
Experience as a lead monitor (working without on-site supervision)
Technical lab specialty with significant experience (e.g., lithic, glass, metal, ceramic, paleobotanical, or GIS analysis)
Proficiency in Microsoft Access database software
