Archaeologist with Master's Degree and CRM experience
Position Title: Archaeologist
Position Status: Full-time, Permanent, Regular/Benefited, Non-Exempt
Compensation: commensurate with experience, plus benefits
Location: Santa Cruz
Position Description Summary: The ideal candidate for this position will hold a Master's Degree with a specialization in historic archaeology, have at least three years of experience working in CRM, and be proficient in analyzing historic artifacts. They will have a background in California archaeology, experience working on a broad range of projects in both field and lab contexts, experience in archival research, excellent writing and communication skills, and be capable of professionally representing Albion to clients, subcontractors, and the public. They will be aiming to establish a career in CRM, and willing to live in Santa Cruz, Monterey, or surrounding areas.
Required Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Anthropology or Archaeology
Three years of technical experience, including construction monitoring, field projects, and lab work
A desire to establish a career in consulting
Experience directing fieldwork and working with clients and construction crews
Understanding of CRM laws (CEQA, Section 106, NAGPRA)
Excellent writing and communication skills
Experience in historic artifact analysis and database management
Experience with archival research and literature review
Experience working with stakeholder/descendant communities and Native American monitors
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
Enthusiasm for learning new skills
Attention to detail
Living in or willing to relocate to Santa Cruz or nearby areas
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree includes a specialization in historic archaeology
Background working in California and studying California precolonial through American Period history
Experience with lab photography
Experience supervising staff in field and lab tasks
Technical specialty in historic artifact analysis, with substantial experience
